Dr Wagenheim completed her MB ChB at the University of Cape Town in 2002. She moved to Johannesburg to complete her internship and community service and thereafter went into full-time private practice as a general practitioner. During this time she began assisting in theatre and since 2012 has been working exclusively as a surgical assistant and a valuable member of the team.
